Regis Philbin
Regis Philbin is a household name for anyone that watches television. Regis Francis Xavier Philbin was born on August 25 , 1931 in the Van Nest / Morris Park section of the Bronx . He was an only child born to Irish father and Italian American mother. He graduated from The University of Notre Dame in 1953 with a sociology degree. He served in the Navy prior to having a few television and radio jobs behind the scenes before moving on to broadcasting.
Regis is known for his game show host personalities which include The Neighbors in 1975 a game show on ABC that did not last very long, a field reporter for Almost Anything Goes for ABC which was another game show with poor ratings. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? , was a huge success in 1999. Regis won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Game Show Host in 2001.
Regis is not only known for his hosting of game shows but has a rather large audience that sees him as the one of the best talk show host of his time and was given the title "the hardest working man in show business" , by Guinness World Records. His talk show success includes from 1975 to 1983 A.M. Los Angeles, The Morning Show in 1983 which became became nationally syndicated in September 1988 as was known as Live with Regis and Kathie Lee ,
On the Lifetime television network, Regis hosted Lifestyles with Regis Philbin in the 1980's.
After Kathy (Lee) Gilford left the show, Kelly Ripa was chosen as the permanent co-host in 2001 , the show was renamed Live with Regis and Kelly .
Regis is also in the Guinness Book of World Records once again for “Most hours on Camera” when he set the record on August 20, 2004 with 15,188 hours on television.
Regis has not been just a host but has been featured as a guest on many famous television productions and the center of many tabloid stories and rumors. Regis may be one of the most talked about personalities in the US today whether for his television appearances, his books, his music, or his own unique personality.
